YILDIZ TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY MARITIME APPLICATION AND RESEARCH CENTER
Objectives of the
Center:
a) To identify problems and needs related to ships and maritime affairs at the national and international levels and to develop scientific solutions to these issues.
b) To conduct research on the design, production, and new technologies of underwater and surface systems in line with Turkey’s defense needs, and to develop solutions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
c) To conduct research, development, and application studies aimed at advancing new technologies related to ships and maritime affairs, and to contribute to the widespread adoption of ship and maritime technologies in Turkey.
d) In line with the objectives outlined above, to conduct studies and research on ship and maritime technologies and efficiency at both the national and international levels, and to provide consulting services on Turkey’s ship and maritime issues.
The Center’s Areas of Activity
a) To conduct research, designs, and studies addressing the relevant issues faced by organizations in the sectors, along with pilot applications and industrial-scale experiments/simulations.
b) To establish a website containing research in the fields of shipbuilding and maritime technology and to keep the site up to date. To establish an archive, library, and information center by collecting all types of documents and works—such as reports, newsletters, books, journals, brochures, papers, and similar materials—published in Turkey and abroad.
c) To carry out educational and informational activities and, for this purpose, to engage in national or international scientific and technological cooperation as needed, organizing in-service training programs, courses, seminars, conferences, congresses, symposia, panels, exhibitions, fairs, workshops, search conferences, and similar meetings, and to participate in those organized by other institutions. Organize competitions related to the sector.
ç) Collaborate with media organizations for informational purposes; prepare brochures, books, videos, press releases, and other publications.
d) To conduct continuing education activities, engage in activities leading to the issuance of certificates, and collaborate with relevant organizations toward these objectives.
e) To conduct studies on the evaluation and development of ship and maritime technologies, monitor global developments, and take the lead in adapting them to Turkey.
f) Ensure increased efficiency during ship production, maintenance, repair, and operation.
g) Conduct studies on the recovery of waste materials and their environmentally sound management in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors, and implement such projects.
ğ) To develop ship and maritime policies and share them with relevant organizations.
h) To establish laboratories to provide the necessary laboratory, testing, analysis, inspection, and certification services for ship and maritime matters, and to work toward the accreditation of these laboratories.
ı) To equip our university students with the knowledge and necessary skills to work in the shipping and maritime sectors.
i) To provide consulting services to public and private sector organizations, as well as international organizations and individuals; to collaborate with them; and to develop joint projects.
j) To conduct studies related to the standardization of products, methods, and technologies, as well as quality control. To contribute to the preparation, amendment, or revision of laws, regulations, bylaws, standards, and similar documents in these areas.
k) To obtain patents for products and technologies developed as a result of the Center’s work. To sell the developed techniques, accumulated knowledge, and similar legal intellectual property rights and applications abroad, primarily by meeting domestic needs.
l) To collaborate with national and international centers with similar objectives and to carry out staff exchanges with these centers within the framework of a program.
